چکیده

One of the major issues in the networking industry today is the tremendous demand for more and more bandwidth. With the development of all-optical networks and the use of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, a new and probably very crucial milestone is being reached in network evolution. In this scenario, carriers need powerful, commercially viable and scalable tools that can be used to balance the traffic load on the various fiber links/wavelengths and optical switches in the network so that none of these components is over utilized or underutilized. Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) is actually the most promising technology, which will play a key role in future IP pure optical networks by providing the necessary bridges between the IP and optical layers to deliver effective traffic engineering features and allow for interoperable and scalable parallel growth in the IP and photonic dimension. This paper propose an integrated control plane approach that will combine existing GMPLS control plane techniques with the point-and-click provisioning capabilities of photonic switches to set up optical channel trails and to distribute optical transport network topology state information. The GMPLS control plane will support various traffic engineering functions, and enable a variety of protection and restoration capabilities, while simplifying the integration of photonic switches and label switching routers.

Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) extends MPLS signaling and Internet routing protocols to provide a scalable, interoperable, distributed control plane, which is applicable to multiple network technologies such as optical cross connects (OXCs), photonic switches, IP routers, ATM switches, SONET and DWDM systems. It is intended to facilitate automatic service provisioning and dy...

A novel admission control mechanism in GMPLS-based IP over optical networks

With the migration of real-time and high-priority traffic in IP networks, dynamic admission control mechanisms are very important in high-capacity networks where IP and optical technologies have converged with a GMPLS-based control-plane. In this paper proposes, we propose an integrated multilayer traffic engineering framework that considers both physical and logical (optical layer) topologies ...

ER-LSP setup for multi-service in lambda labeling network

Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) is being applied to optical networks as a means of moving control functionality from the management plane to the control plane, and automating lightpath provisioning and maintenance. GMPLS enables IP networks with Quality of Service (QoS) to be traffic engineered efficiently. However, computation of explicitly-defined paths optimizing network pe...

Optical Switching and Networking

Next generation backbone networks will likely consist of IP routers as well as optical cross connects (OXCs) and will deploy an optical control plane protocol. Generalized Multi Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) has been proposed as the candidate of choice for the control plane. Optical fibers may carry large volumes of traffic and therefore adequate mechanisms must exist to enable the network t...

Multilayer Quality and Grade of Service Support for High Speed GMPLS IP/DWDM Networks

IP over optical networks controlled by the GMPLS control plane have become the common infrastructure for a variety of services, such as triple play and grid applications. The traffic aggregation requires the services to be differentiated in a multilayer fashion, so as to guarantee higher levels of GoS and QoS to ‘gold’ traffic. This means that the traditional DiffServ technology needs to be com...
